Renting is an option for many undergraduate/graduate/law students or for those here on short-term work assignments, internships, or have just moved to the area, etc.
Here are ten important questions to answer and share with your Realtor >>>
1) How important is it that you be near a Metro in term of distance. Walking within 15 minutes or are you flexible?
2) Parking: off-street parking (are you going to have a car here?) or street parking is OK with you?
3) Gym or Pool access? Dishwasher? On site Washer/Dryer? Pet(s)?
4) If you are relocating, are you interested in finding something while you are here on this trip or possibly return again if you didn't? Typically we can helf ypu identify you a place in one day. What time will you be here? Will you arrive in the morning or be coming in the previous night? Where will you be staying? Are you driving or flying in? Is someone joining us in the search since you are looking for a two-bedroom (three or four-bedroom)?
5) Please bring a few pieces of documentation with you.. 1) Copies of your driver's license or passport, 2) Copies of two recent paystubs or a W-2, 3) Are you planning to attend school or starting a new job? If school, copy of your offer letter. If a new job, copy of the offer letter with salary information included in the text.
6) Is anyone going to be a cosigner (almost a necessity if you are in school full-time)? If so, they too will have to fill out the application form and have their credit checked. Typically, the application fee ranges from $25 to $50 depending on the listing agent/ landlord/jurisdiction. All cosigners need the same/similar documentation.
7) Are you planning to look on Craigslist too? If so, I'd ask you to work with me about 3-5 hours uninterrupted first. My commission is paid by the landlord so you don't have to worry about an hourly rate or having to pay for my services.
8) Does you monthly rent budget of $XX,XXX include utilities?
9) Or any other neighborhoods that come to mind that you might be interested in? Where are you going to be centered for work, school, activities?
10) I'll start sending you emails with possible properties that we can view together after you get a chance to read this email and reply. If there are some of interest in seeing a property, please let me know the address or the multiple listing number. I'll need to call the listing agent to gain more information or access. So is there any other piece of information you think I need to know prior to my search of properties?
